About Treasure Lake

In June of 1842 John Du Bois rode into the area in a horse drawn buggy.  He was looking over the forest to determine its potential for a lumber business.  He acquired 35,000 acres of forest land in Clearfield County and launched a successful lumbering business.  It was then that DuBois became established as a town.

In later years John Du Bois' nephew, John E. Du Bois, Jr. (1898-1984) acquired the property which was so special to him and his family.  He conceived the idea of establishing this land as a recreational area which could be enjoyed by others.  He determined that a lake could be constructed which would add to the enjoyment of the facilities.  Once completed he named this lake "Rene" for his wife.  In 1968 the property was sold to Great Northern Development Company, Lake Rene became Treasure Lake and in 1969 the Declaration of Restrictions was developed.  The sale of lots began.  Over the years there have been several other developers and in February 1996 the Treasure Lake Owners Association assumed ownership of all the Amenities at Treasure Lake.
