In June of 1842, John Du Bois rode into the area in a horse drawn buggy. He was looking over the forest to determine its potential for a lumber business. He acquired 35,000 acres of forest land in Clearfield County and launched a successful lumbering business.  It was then that DuBois became established as a town.

In later years, John Du Bois' nephew, John E. Du Bois, Jr. (1898-1984) acquired the property which was so special to him and his family. He conceived the idea of establishing this land as a recreational area which could be enjoyed by others. He determined that a lake could be constructed which would add to the enjoyment of the facilities. Once completed, he named this lake "Rene" for his wife.  

In 1968, the property was sold to Great Northern Development Company. Lake Rene became Treasure Lake, and in 1969 the Declaration of Restrictions was developed. Then, the sale of lots began. Over the years, there have been several other developers who have aided in the creation of this beautiful community. In February 1996, the Treasure Lake Property Owners Association assumed ownership of all the Amenities at Treasure Lake.

The community of Treasure Lake is a private development with 24 hour security.  Treasure Lake consists of over 9000 acres, 3 private lakes, over 6000 lots, and over 2000 homes, with approximately 100 miles of roadways.  It is accessible through two points of entry and exit, with full time security/safety staff located at the main entrance to Treasure Lake.

We were attracted to Treasure Lake because it has public water and sewer and, now, in much of the Lake area, natural gas. The homes are varied in construction and, for the most part, well cared for. "Tom took a position with Penn Traffic in 1983.  We were living in Des Moines, Iowa, after leaving Seven Springs, PA where I was Sales Manager.  Tom was Merchandising & Marketing VP for Super Valu.  We knew we were not going to stay in Iowa, and Treasure Lake was the deal-maker.  We visited in December and moved in February.  My family thinks we moved from one resort to another!  To live in “The Lake” is one advantage, but to live in a community where we have made some very special friends makes all the difference.  We have taken advantage of every asset of “The Lake” and have enjoyed life in the Greater DuBois area – they are not mutually exclusive!   This is a great area to raise kids, practice your profession (teaching), work in local commerce, and hopefully make it possible to enjoy retirement with good health and good friends."

"We moved to Treasure Lake in 1991.  Born and raised in the DuBois area, we were looking for a place that would give us the feel of living in the woods, with water and sewage provided.  I love it here and would not want to live anywhere else in Pennsylvania.  The lakes offer stunning views; the sunsets on Bimini Lake are awesome.  There is a sense of serenity when you enter the gates.  Just a real relaxed feeling that has not gone away after all these years.  I still stop to watch the wildlife; from the buck with a majestic set of antlers to the bear walking up the green of the Gold Course to the bald eagle flying effortlessly over Bimini Lake.  The brilliant fall foliage lines all the roads in Treasure Lake in the fall.   When winter rolls around, the fresh fallen snow glistens off the branches making it a winter wonderland, and the lush green foliage in the summer makes Treasure Lake a picture perfect community.  The eclectic styles of homes make it a departure from the ordinary “cookie cutter communities”.     People in Treasure Lake come from all walks of life and all parts of the world, making the new found friendships so interesting. Q: I'm a property owner, may I use my boat on the lakes?

A: Yes. Only boats registered in the name of a property owner in good standing may be launched on Treasure or Bimini Lakes. A property owner in good standing may register their boat(s) at the POA Administration building. Please bring your current POA membership card and your boat registration.

Q: I'm a timeshare owner, may I bring my boat to Treasure Lake?

A: Yes. During the week you are in residence in your timeshare you will need a Treasure Lake boat decal. You may present your timeshare membership card and your boat registration at the Marina to purchase the required decal.

Q: I'm not a property owner at Treasure Lake, but I'm staying in the cabins at Cayman Landing. May I use my boat at Treasure Lake?

A: Unfortunatley, no. Only property owners in good standing are permitted to launch their boats on Treasure or Bimini Lakes. However, the Marina has kayaks, paddleboats, canoes, and rowboats that may be rented by the hour, half-day, or full-day at reasonable rates.

Q: Do I need a fishing license to fish at the lakes in Treasure Lake?

A: Yes. If you are 16 years old or older, a PA fishing license is required to fish in Treasure or Bimini Lakes. PA fishing licenses are available at the Marina for your convenience. Children 12 years old and under, and senior citizens 65 years old and over, may fish at Little Flipper Lake.

Q: Where can I purchase Treasure Lake souvenirs?

A: A full selection of shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, postcards, and novelties are available at the Marina.

Q: How do I get a boat slip?

A: Currently, there is a waiting list for boat slips. However, there are plans to provide additional slips in the near future. Please inquire at the Marina if you wish to be placed on the waiting list for a boat slip. Boat slips are only available to Treasure Lake property owners and Crown Resorts Members in good standing.
